The Ultimate Party Etiquette Guide
Dec. 2, 2015
Whether you’re attending a small gathering, a wedding or a housewarming, there may be certain party etiquette guidelines that you’re not aware of. Here is a quick rundown to help make sure you’ve mastered the art of partying in every situation.
Intimate Dinner Party
- Do not arrive early in case you interrupt your host’s final touches for the occasion. It’s acceptable to arrive 10 to 15 minutes late, but over 30 minutes can cause the food to run cold.
- Bring a gift—even if the host says it’s not necessary. Instead of the usual, why not liven things up with an unexpected, beautiful bottle of Roca Patrón Reposado?
- If you have a food allergy, by all means, mention it to your host before the party while offering to bring a dish to save them from the bother. They may either gladly accept it, or plan to accommodate you on their own.
Wedding
- Plan to arrive exactly at the time noted on the invitation. The bride waits for no one.
- Do not get in the way of the official wedding photographer to snap your phone pic of the bride and groom during the ceremony. They spent the extra money for a reason—your job is to sit back and be a part of the special moment.
- When you are appropriately uploading selfies, make sure to use the event’s hashtag before posting pics on social media. This will help the couple easily find all their friends’ best moments.
Housewarming
- Sounds obvious, but make an effort to mingle with friends and strangers. It helps out the busy host, and gives you a higher likelihood of enjoying your time.
- Even though it’s not appropriate for the host to have a registry, you should bring a gift to help celebrate their new home. Since you have no idea how they’ve chosen to decorate, consider something that can’t clash with décor, such as something edible or practical.
Know when to leave—and make sure to assist with any clean up.
