6 Creative Ways To Repurpose Patrón Bottles

Aug. 5, 2016

DIY projects are great for making you feel extra accomplished—like, look at this totally awesome thing I made myself. Next time you’ve got the will and the time to make something cool, reach for an empty Patrón bottle. As the six creations crafted for the The Art of Patrón Bottle Art Contest below prove, there’s life well beyond tequila. Brandon Montgomery, a participant in last year’s competition, provided a few tips to help hone your craft.

Now take a deep breath. You got this.

Bookends

Patrón-bottle bookends are a win-win: their weight makes them sturdy enough to prop up even large hardcovers. And let’s face it: they will seriously upgrade your “shelfies.”

Chess Set

One thing to remember when repurposing Patrón bottles: size doesn’t matter. For the magnificent chess set he created for last year’s Art of Patrón, Montgomery used large bottles as the base and mini-bottles as the chess pieces. “The Patrón glass is really thick, so I tried a few different methods when it came to cutting the glass,” explained Montgomery. “Ideally I would have used a cross-fire flame to weld the glass together, but I rented a wet tile saw from Home Depot to cut the glass, and that worked pretty decently. Definitely keep extra bottles on hand as backup.”

Planters

If you’ve got several empty bottles, planters are your move. The wide base will look dramatic when filled with greens, the thin mouth will keep unruly stems in place.

Glassware

One of the most obvious ways to repurpose your Patrón bottle? Why, glassware, of course! Sure, you’ll need to be extra-handy to pull this off, but according to  Montgomery, a specialized glass glue works wonders for adhering these bottles together. Plus if you manage to craft a full set, your home bar will be all that more unique. Now all you need is another bottle of Patrón for those cocktails…

Lanterns

Imaging guests sipping tequila cocktails while flickering Patrón lanterns hang above. Is there anything more summery than that? Indoors, lanterns can double as candle-holders on the coffee table.

Candelabra

Flip your empties on their head and fuse a bunch of them into a dramatic candelabra. It’ll look great above the fireplace, or as a centerpiece during holiday meals.

Succulent Vase

Slice your bottle in half and add your favorite succulents. Clustered together on the windowsill, the vases will look like something out of a design mag.
