What is Cinco de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican heritage and commemorates the Mexican Army defeating the French in the 1862 Battle of Puebla. While widely celebrated in the United States, Cinco de Mayo is not a national holiday in Mexico. Instead, the preferred drink of the day in Puebla, the site of the victory, is an agua fresca.
