3 Cocktails That Prove Salt Rims Aren’t Just for Margaritas

Jul. 29, 2016

Salt is a chameleon: It gets rid of bad juju (just toss it over your shoulder), is used as a garnish and ultimately makes everything taste better. So it should really be no surprise that the ubiquitous mineral—condiment, ingredient, whatever you want to call it—works well not only on margaritas but on other libations, too. Here are three tequila cocktails that taste even more perfect with a salt rim.

One Perfect Paloma cocktail with a bottle of Patrón Reposado with a cheeseboard, meat and crackers in the background.
Perfect Paloma

Perfect Paloma

  • 1.5 oz Patrón Reposado
  • 3 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
  • .5 oz Agave syrup (1:1)
  • .5 oz Fresh-squeezed lime juice
  • 1 oz Sparkling water
  • Sugar and salt for rimming
  • Grapefruit wedge for garnish

Combine all ingredients except sparkling water in a shaker tin and shake with ice to chill. Strain onto fresh ice in a sugar and salt rimmed collins glass. Top with sparkling water and garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

One Yellow Submarine cocktail with extra limes, parsley and other cocktail making tools.

  • 1.25 oz Yellow juice

  • .5 oz Simple syrup
  • 4 drops Pink saline
  • Dried parsley & Himalayan salt rim

Rim glass with fine ground dried parsley and Himalayan salt using beet pickles. Combine ingredients in a mixing tin. Shake and strain into prepared rocks glass filled with ice.

One Tom Yum cocktail and a bottle of Patrón Silver on a white counter with lemongrass in the background.
